This a one of those great Pinterest finds that makes you wonder why you didn't think of that sooner! We love perler beads to make treasures and ornaments, but when we learned we could make a beautiful bowl from them we invested in the super size tub of beads.

How We Did It

Bead Bowl

Perler beads usually come with forms that you can place the beads on and with an iron, you connect them to make shapes. This is a lot of fun and great for fine motor skills.

Bead Bowl
To make a bowl we first greased a glass oven safe bowl and preheated our oven to 350 degrees.

Emma added beads to the bowl and pressed them down and up the sides to make a flat layer of single beads. It already looked so beautiful!

Bead Bowl
Grown-up step, I placed it in the oven and watched it carefully. Our bowl took about 10 minutes to melt and become one. I took it out of the oven and found out after a few bowls that the secret to removing it easily is to remove it while it is still warm. I used a butter knife to loosen the edges and then peeled it off.
Bead Bowl
Our bowl came out so pretty we couldn't stop making them! Of course this is a decorative bowl that should not be eaten out of.

Colorful and easy. Use just a small amount of oil--if you use too much you can rinse it off afterwards under cold water. We tried making the bowl with Perler Biggie Beads for our 18 month old and it worked just as well, it just needed to stay in the oven a bit longer.
