This is a simple activity that helps children learn math skills such as counting. It also allows children to practice using patterns (which helps with future math skills by developing problem solving skills).

How We Did It

Foam Counting and Patterns
We started by creating a pattern by using pairs of each shape on the first line. We then counted them.

We then repeated the pattern on the second line.
Foam Counting and Patterns
We talked about patterns and sets. There were two different sets of each animal or insect. For instance their were two different set of frogs- 2 green and two pink which equals 4 total frogs.

We then counted them all, one through twelve and also counted them in two's.
Foam Counting and Patterns
The nice thing about using adhesive foam is they are removable. We removed them and made a different pattern. We added one ladybug and then one frog and alternated between the two. We then counted them. This is a simple and fun way for children to explore with counting and patterns!
