This sparkly alternative to pumpkin carving is fun and easy for little ones to do--and makes one snazzy-looking pumpkin! I know glitter can be intimidating to bring into the home, but it can also be an excuse to go outside. (If you must be indoors, here's a quick tip: Use baking sheets to do your glitter projects on. They work great at keeping glitter from going everywhere.)

How We Did It

Glitter Pumpkins

Gather all supplies and (if you can) head outside!

I like to involve the kids in as many steps as possible. So, things like watering the glue down I save for their little hands. (Yes, it's much easier and faster for me to do, but they love it and it makes them happy to explore in this way.)

When your glue and water are mixed, either start painting the pumpkin with the glue or place masking tape on the pumpkin to create a pattern or face.

Have your kids apply the glue to wherever they would like to see the glitter. (A sponge brush works great for glue and is much easier to clean.) After the glue is on, let the kids go for the glitter!

Once the kiddos are satisfied with their glitter coverage,  pull off the masking tape (if used) and reveal your dazzling jack o' lanterns. Our pumpkins bring some sparkly cheer to our front porch!
