Make a floating jellyfish in a bottle to play with!

How We Did It

Jellyfish in a Bottle

Start with a tall (almost full) water bottle, a clear plastic grocery bag, string, and scissors. You'll also need food coloring if you wish to have blue or greenish-colored water.

Jellyfish in a Bottle

Cut out a square piece out of your bag, then pick up the center of the bag (which will be the jellyfish's "head").

Jellyfish in a Bottle
Gather up the head of the jellyfish and loosely tie on the string around the base of the head, leaving an opening big enough to add water later.
Jellyfish in a Bottle
Cut your tentacles, trimming down to about 10-15 strands of different lengths.
Jellyfish in a Bottle

Use a pipette to fill the head of the jellyfish with water, leaving room for air and keeping in mind that the head should be small enough that it fits through the mouth of your water bottle.

Jellyfish in a Bottle

Gently nudge the jellyfish into the water bottle, and add food coloring plus more water to fill the bottle.

Jellyfish in a Bottle
Close the lid tight and play with your jellyfish by turning the bottle up and down!
