"Love is in the Air" Heart Mobile

If this mobile is anything to go by, love is definitely in the air! Using contact paper along with some cool textures, my kids had a blast exploring with new materials.

How We Did It

Contact paper is one of my favorite materials to use with younger children. They can stick and create with no glue needed. First draw different-sized hearts on the transparent side of the paper with a marker. (Your kids may or may not need help with this step.)

Once the hearts are complete, peel off the paper of the contact paper to expose the sticky side. Lay it sticker side up and let your child decorate the hearts. We used feathers, confetti, and sprinkles, but really anything could work (such as pretty paper punch outs and stickers).

When your child feels satisfied with the decorated hearts you can cut another sheet of contact paper, peel off the paper and lay it right on top. Next, cut out the hearts and punch a hole at the top of each one.

Got two sticks? We seem to always have sticks that have been collected from the park or nature walk and I love when I have a project that uses our nature findings. I crossed the sticks and started wrapping the center with yarn to hold them together. Once I got the yarn started, I handed it off to my five-year-old to complete.

Cut different lengths of yarn to tie each heart onto your mobile. My daughter loves to cut yarn. I think it has become a hobby for her, so this part was all her doing.

And there you have it: a beautiful Valentine's Day mobile! This looked so festive hanging in our kitchen. It was our first craft of the season and it really inspired us to do so many heart crafts this year. Surrounding yourself with festive and warm creations just keeps the creative bug going.
