Learn about the parts of an insect as you create them out of play dough.

How We Did It

Play Dough Ants
Roll pieces of play dough into 3 balls.
Play Dough Ants
Push the 3 pieces together to create your ant. This is a great time to sneak in a little learning about the 3 parts of an insect: the head, the thorax (in the middle), and the abdomen.
Play Dough Ants
Cut small pieces of pipe cleaner to use as the legs. Stick a leg in each section of the insect and bend it up slightly toward the bottom of the pipe cleaner to make feet.
Play Dough Ants
She carried her play dough ant around with her in a bug house all day.
Play Dough Ants
You can also cut wings out of tissue paper and press them into the play dough to make other insects.
