We made this fun caterpillar using an old sock. It was such a hit with my daughter (she gave it a name, a home, a bed, and a little caterpillar blanket) that we had to raid the sock drawer to make a few more. Anything my daughter can carry around and mother is usually a big hit in our house!

How We Did It

Sock Caterpillar
We found a fun fuzzy sock for our first caterpillar. These would be really cute to make with different patterns like a bright plaid sock or polka dots.

First we added some small balls of yarn to the sock. You can use some cotton, batting, or even styrofoam balls for this step.

Once Emma had the sock filled, I helped her by adding a rubber band on the sock in between each yarn ball. Then she got to work adding pipe cleaner antennas and some eyes!

Sock Caterpillar

We used just one sequin for the nose and skipped the mouth...apparently caterpillars (according to a five-year-old) do not have a mouth you can see. Learn something new every day!

Susie the caterpillar came out so fluffy, soft, and adorable! She is a new favorite stuffy pet to my kids.
