Make an eco-friendly witch's broomstick with this fun Halloween favor bag--perfect for a classroom or October birthday party! All you need to make one broomstick are two lunch-sized paper bags, string, and a stick or tree branch.

How We Did It

Witch's Broomstick Bag
I love how simple and minimal this craft project is. Gather the materials and get ready to cut. Kid-friendly scissors are best since this is where your child will help the most.

Unfold the first paper bag. Using scissors, cut thin strips on the bag all the way to the base of the bag. (Don't cut into the bottom part of the paper bag.) To make cutting easy for your child, you may want to draw lines with a pencil where the strips will get cut.

Cutting with scissors is an important step for kindergarten preparedness, and this is a fun and purposeful way to practice.

Then grab the second bag and cut 1" strips from the top of the bag. Fill the second bag with a healthy snack like popcorn if you are using it as a party favor.
Witch's Broomstick Bag

We wanted to make witch's broomsticks for home decor, so we filled our broomstick with two of Zoe's small stuffed animals. She loved seeing the little guys become her broom stuffing. Once the cutting and stuffing is done, place the second bag inside the first bag.

Now place your stick into the bag. Use your string to cinch the bag around the stick. I had my daughter help me with the cinching while I tied the string. I wrapped the string around several times. Twine or hemp cord works perfectly for the string.

Now you're ready to take flight on your mini broomstick. As soon as we finished this project, my daughter grabbed her broomstick and started "flying" around! Hm...maybe we'll make several and get some Quidditch action going on in the backyard...
