Customer Feedback

"My son saw the green box in the pile of mail and audibly gasped, "Let's do a craft, mom!" We enjoyed a full half day making both the firefly and the sponge painted bugs. The firefly has been mounted to the ceiling in his bedroom and he says goodnight to it each night. :) Thank you for making such a great product!!!"

"We just received our first crate! My son, who has never showed any interest in painting or art for more than one minute, sat in complete enthused concentration as he made his Fire Fly. I am so thrilled not only at his reaction, but of the high-quality and creativity of your products. I am beyond grateful to have found you!"

Busy with Bugs!
Review by Kathleen K.
The Bugs crate has kept my kids busy for days. It is not something that they are done with in a few hours. We have gone on bug scavenger hunts and done all things bugs since we got the crate. Very entertaining, fun and informative for not only my kids but myself as well. We even made sandwiches and used bug cookie cutters to shape our sandwiches and then made paint out of milk and food coloring so they could paint their sandwiches before eating them.

Bright & Interesting
Review by Amanda R.
I love all the different supplies provided in the exact amount portioned for the craff. I also loved that you gave us the info cards so we actually learned something while doing this. Also it was a little messy (paint and sponges) but controlled so something we wouldn't normally do but it was an excuse to experiment. Also love that it was perfectly matched to the season-we're checking out bugs! This was my first crate so I can't think of anything I would do differently. The presentation was beautiful and really organized. Bright and interesting materials. It's a great gift idea but a little pricey for a friends birthday but certainly something a grand parent or relative would give.

love the glow sticks
Review by Haley T.
My son loved making his own flying bug! Teh best part was the glow sticks. The painting project could have used some more paint colors. So far, we love it

great directions for kids
Review by Erin E.
Loved that it was ready to go, and that the directions were simple enough for small kids to understand. I love the idea, and the concept. We looking forward to more crates.

Love 'em!!
Review by Julie M.
My daughter loved both activities in the Busy with Bugs crate! She was super excited to realize, too, that she gets to keep the reusable supplies to make more paintings!! I've told all of my friends, co-workers, etc that have kids about Kiwi crates.

a new favorite
Review by Jess N.
This is my favorite crate in the 5 months I've been a member. Both activities were fun for my three year old and it was nice that there was one "clean" craft and one "messy" one. The flying glow bug still has my child mesmerized. I thought another box was weak, but overall we are blown away by your boxes! Thank you - I'm a mom that wants to "craft" with my kid, but lack the imagination and willingness to go into Michael's/Joanne's/etc. This box is a dream come true.

Made for a great day
Review by Amy T.
the kids loved it!!!! Easy, cool, had to stand in a dark closet for a long time to watch them glow...l love the way the boxes are presented...the directions are so easy, everything is there and my daughter wants to know when you will be available in Brazil. Got a photo of my granddaughters in Seattle doing there project too...they're really pleased as well....what a fun day!

fantastic quality
Review by Cathy B.
Instructions were easy for my kid to read/follow. There was also great educational value about the bugs. She told me so many things that I didn't know! While she has used the paint, she keeps using the sponges for other projects. The scales for parent involvement were a little off. For the bug that flies on the string, the six year old had no problems doing it all by herself.

very special :)
Review by Ilana K.
This was our first crate and my daughter felt very special. :) I loved the easy instructions and she was very proud of her firefly! The entire box had a good balance between some things we did together and some things she could do on her own while I prepared dinner. $20 does seem like a fair price for the quality of the projects and crates, but a bit steep for us. Even at $10 a crate, it would be an occasional luxury for us instead of a regular subscription. I am going to suggest it to the grandparents as a gift for our little ones though.

unbelievably creative
Review by Laura W.
Making a bug with the jar was a great, unbelievably creative idea. Painting was very fun too. This one was great! Perfect for my 3 year old. Kiwi crate is really fun for her. We love that there are 2 projects in each crate, so fun for 2 days.

love the messy scale
Review by Namita G.
It was cute and very creative and fun. My daughter loved the firefly. I love the messy scale to I could determine when we did each of the crafts. I think they are great!

awesome crate
Review by Richard C.
Loved everything! This was an awesome crate. We went on a 6 1/2 hour flight to Costa Rica and my son was mesmerized by the projects we had to make. He painted for a good 2 hours- he had a great time with the sponges!! It was the best crate we have had thus far- need more of those!!

Great Finished Project
Review by june s.
I liked that everything is included for the projects. It was nice to have a finished project the children were able to put in their rooms, and the bugs were great. We liked the sponges that expanded in water, and we liked the glow sticks that actually made the fireflies light up. The children wanted more paint colors. It would have been nice to have red, yellow and blue paints so we could make colors other than just orange. Although black paint was much appreciated by my son (one of his favorite colors), it doesn't mix with others.

Gift for Younger Kids
Review by angela v.
I loved the whole thing, my daughter lost interest pretty fast though and hasn't gone back to it. Do you think she is too old? 7. I thought she would be all over it, but really sad she didn't get into it more. Oh well. The concept is genius and the product itself came to me packaged well. I did buy this as a gift for my cousin's 4 year old, he seemed very into it. I would buy this as a gift for younger kids.

Review by Angela V.
I loved the quality of the materials provided! Loved the theme and creativity! What kid doesn't love glow sticks, lol! A++ in my book :) Thanks again for your excellent service! It is worth every penny! I cut my coffee budget for this and am never disappointed, lol!

Perfect for 3 & 5
Review by Jasmine E.
We loved this crate! It was very well aimed at the ages of my children (3 & 5). All the projects were easy for them to accomplish and understand. The little paint cups that came with the bug sponge painting project weren't big enough for all the sponges.

love the 2 crafts
Review by Amanda B.
I loved having the two crafting options. I did one with my daughter and my husband did the other at different times. It was great to spend individual time doing them with our daughter and she really enjoyed the variety! You guys are great! Keep up the good work!

easy to do with kids
Review by Angelina N.
I liked how everything was packaged. It was very easy for me to do with my kids. The lightening bug in particular was fun because I could help my 2 year old while my 4 year old was able to do it herself after I showed her. They both had a lot of fun with the completed bugs.

daughter loved it!
Review by Kristin H.
My daughter loved putting the stickers on the firefly. She also loved doing the sponge bugs painting. In fact she did one page with me and then when her daddy came home she did it again with him on another page! We ran out of yellow paint when doing the bug stamps. Since yellow is used to make blur and green and we needed so much more there wasn't enough. It also would have been nice for the paints to be true primary colors as it is great to show kids how they make "new" colors when you mix them. A bit harder to show when you have to work at balancing the colors out by adding a lot more of one color.

works for 2.5 yo and 5 yo
Review by CHRISTINE M.
The sponges were awesome! As was the firefly project! I like how the 2 projects are of differing skill levels - works as I do one with my 2.5 yo and one with my 5 yo.

wonderful for busy working moms
Review by Fleta H.
We loved everything!! I think it's so great you provide all the materials and extra bonus questions for the kids. My daughter absolutely loves her glow bug she has named "silly bug". This was our first crate, and I am so thankful for the time I got to spend with my daughter doing the projects. I am a busy working mom and just don't have the time to put things like this together, so it was so fun and she thought it was great and learned a lot too!! Thanks Kiwi Crate!!!!

great for summer
Review by Laura C.
I love how well planned the activities are and how generous you are with supplies. If I absolutely had to find a critique...I might say it is almost a bit too immature for my six year old. I wish the activities were just a bit more challenging. A second kit for older kits would completely amaze me. I love the concept. I'm super impressed with the product. I have told everybody I know how much we loved Kiwicrate and how they should order ASAP to keep their kiddos busy this summer!

love the quality and design
Review by Liz W.
As always we love the quality and design of the materials: the paper selection fr the bug painting was beautiful, the sponges were cute and had great variety of shapes among them, the sponges "growing" in water provides a really cool teaching moment, I could go on as on. You guys really know what you are doing aesthetically. And my boys and I truly truly appreciate and enjoy that. I also really loves the insect cards. Neat to have and keep as we talk a lot about different bugs and what each does and does not do. I am a painter and art therapist and I see your stuff and wish I had come up with these ideas on my own! But I'm so happy that someone did and is sharing them. We thank you thank you thank you. My boys and I save our monthly sticker and booklets and supplemental stuff in a binder we call "our science kid book" and I always photograph and video parts of our process. It's special for all of us. You are a huge part I some really awesome memories that we are making :)

HUGE hit!
Review by Elizabeth F.
fire fly was a HUGE hit with boy and girl ages 4-3/4 & 6-1/2. Glow stick made it magical, but zip line on the lanyard was brilliant. bug painting was so-so. My son was not interested at all. My 6 year old artist was left a little lackluster with the way paint showed up on paper. She was more intrigued with the idea of making symmetrical fold over prints- but the card stock included was not conducive. glow sticks and zip lines! yeah!!!!

my daughter loved it
Review by amy m.
It was so easy to complete the projects. There were supplies left over for her to continue with her creativity. The bonus of compressed sponges and glow sticks in two different colors made it so much fun!! My daughter doesn't even like bugs and she loved it. You may already have this on your website, but it would be nice to have coordinating book titles for different age groups. Or even links to neat websites so they can look at pictures or watch short movies about the topic of the month.

great surprise for kids
Review by marie h.
We liked that most everything you need was included in the box. We have two children and everything was equal which is important. Maybe email the parents if there is anything needed that might not be in the crate. This one you needed water and a bowl. We plan to surprise the kids with the next crate and it would be nice to know if there was any more prep we may need that is not in the box. Glad that I stumbled across this wonderful experience.

Love loved the stickers
Review by marcia s.
My daughter and I LOVED the rainbow of stickers for creating the stained glass effect! That was such an awesome craft. We didn't even get to the bug eyes...simply covering the bottle with color and attaching the CS_Wings and antennae was great. I also adored the heavy duty cupcake liner cups for painting. Where have those been all my life ? :) My daughter loves bugs, so this was a great crate. The bug cards were a nice touch, too. Great job!

Can't wait for our next Kiwi Crate!
Review by marcia b.
My daughter loved both activities. The firefly made from the plastic bottle was a really unique craft for us. I loved the 3-Dness of the craft. She loved her fire fly and even named him glowy. I also really liked the bug cards - loved the space to draw of the back and the just right amount of information. The cards lent themselves well to a discussion of similarities and differences. As a speech and language pathologist, I can really appreciate the language rich activities and opportunities in our crate. As a mom and SLP I am in love with Kiwi Crate. The only thing that hit my radar, this being our first crate, was that there was a lot of "packaging" - but I don't necessarly know that with this product there is a way around that. The directions are printed on really heavy card stock - maybe that can be changed? That being said - I love the quality of the product received, I loved all the pictures - so we could "read" the directions together.

Love the firefly!
Review by Brenda C.
We loved the firefly craft. We have been inserting glow sticks every day to watch him glow! We also liked the bug cards since it is something we can use again and again. We haven't done the bug paintings/sponging yet but I am sure it will be a big hit. I would love if Kiwi Crate came out with crates for the 8 on up crowd. My guys are 7 right now and some of the crafts we have modified (made more complicated) to suit an older child.

glowsticks were great
Review by Jessica P.
Loved the firefly project with the glowsticks! My 4-year-old thought it was the coolest. We had visited friends recently who live in a cooler part of the country & she was chasing fireflies while we were there a month ago. I love that all the supplies are included so we can start the projects as soon as the package arrives. We also enjoy the extra educational info that's included.

artistic, but not "girly"
Review by Sarah P.
Both projects were very artistic, but without being too "girly". My daughter really enjoyed them both and I really liked they she could do them pretty independently after setting her up. I wasn't sure what the bigger plate that was included was for, though after doing both projects I realize it was for the painting project, but it wasn't included in either instructions. I really love the quality and diversity of each project.

great for my 3 year old
Review by Lisa R.
I was surprised at how "age appropriate" the crate truly was. I have ordered activities in the past that were too difficult for my 3 year ols. She loved the firefly zip line (peeling stickers was great!) and the sponges we have used over and over again to make additional crafts. She had a little trouble drawing her own bugs (from the bug cards). She got a little frustrated at that - but not bad. I am a teacher too - if I were planing this lesson I maybe would have used stencils of bugs / bug parts to get the kids going.

cool sponges
Review by Pamela C.
Fun projects - crates are educational and the kids have LOVED every project! We haven't gotten a bad one yet! My children are pretty independent and like to be able to do one of the projects without help. Love these crates. The kids REALLY liked watching the sponges expand in the water - cool!

engaging for my 2 year old
Review by Larry G.
Quality of materials. It engaged my 2 year old. Craft and science = awesome! A bit more of the awesome stickers for around the bottle. My toddler really liked to over lap them and then was sad when she didn't have enough to cover the whole bottle. Even at 2 my girl gets so excited when she sees the green box. She know just what it is. She asks all the time "can we do a kiwi crate today?"

super hands on
Review by Kay L.
This was a very hands on crate with lots for my little guy to do. I loved that once the lightening bug project was completed, it was something he will continue to play with for some time. I also liked the bug info cards - saving these for a car trip or other moment when i need a distraction! The glossy paper for the sponge project didnt work too well - a more porus paper - like construction paper - would have been better - a 3.5 year old had difficulty not smearing the paint on the glossy paper.

The packaging is great. In addition to receiving the box in the mail, my son felt as if he were unwrapping a gift. We are very excited to have discovered Kiwi Crate and look froward to future deliveries.
