Tips for making your own wrapping paper?

I see so many cute ideas to make your own gift wrap but some seem complicated and require special tools - does anyone have ideas that a beginning like me could tackle? Thanks and happy holidays!

Wrapping paper always gets thrown out so I like to use brown grocery bags (inside out). Then the kids go crazy with pencil erasers and stamp pads...kinda like this project: http://www.kiwicrate.com/projects/Stamp-Pad-and-Eraser-Art/286.
