DIRECTOR/ VP OF ENGINEERING

We are looking for a talented and experienced Software leader interested in contributing to the very early stages of a startup - where you will have a real impact on the business and technology. We are looking for an entrepreneurial engineering talent looking for a hands-on development role with leadership responsibilities. You will work closely with our executive team in providing leadership to our development team. Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Technical leadership: Provide technical direction and guidance, as well as planning and scheduling as appropriate for the engineering team. Coordinate the establishment and execution of architectural roadmap
  • Hands-on development: Work with the product and design teams to help deliver great web and mobile products to our users, while participating in all aspects of the software development life-cycle
  • Business savvy: Work with Executive team and help drive prioritization of product features based on impact to the business
  • Team building: Recruit, motivate and manage a high performing team of software engineers
  • Collaboration: Interact and collaborate with various teams including design, product, marketing and operations to define requirements, implementation approaches and solutions
  • Process optimization: Develop and establish effective agile development processes and ensure that development milestones are hit on time and product quality is high

Required Qualifications

  • 5-8+ years of web/software development experience, including experience working in a startup environment
  • Ability to deliver engineering tasks on time and with high quality, and passionate about working with new technologies and solving difficult technical problems
  • Experience with PHP/object oriented programming, LAMP Stack, Web and mobile technologies, Unix environment, SVN/source control
  • Proven ability to architect and optimize a scalable web based product
  • 2+ years of managerial experience, with demonstrated team building and leadership skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to both technical and non-technical audience
  • Ability to balance between customer and business needs and reasonable engineering timelines
  • Driven, flexible, self-starter with ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or relevant field of study

Bonus

  • eCommerce experience, particularly with Magento
  • Experience working with Facebook APIs, iOS, and/or Android platforms

PRODUCT DESIGN INTERN

Role

We're looking for a product design intern interested in contributing to the very early stages of a startup - where you will have a real impact on the business. You will work with our product design and sourcing teams to develop the activities and source the materials that our little customers will delight in using to create, build, interact. You'll be - on the ground floor - bringing our products to life.

  • Work closely and effectively with the Product Design, Merchandising, and Sourcing teams to create new hands-on activities (arts, crafts, science, imaginative play, and more) and identify the appropriate set of materials for our activities.
  • Develop new concepts and prototypes. Present customers with new ideas and prototypes for feedback and iterate as needed.
  • Interface with our community in testing and during events.

Role

The Product Design role at Kiwi Crate centers around fulfilling our promise to delight children and families with the projects and associated experiences and memories we deliver. It’s a rewarding and rich position that requires a fun balance of left and right brain skills. Additionally, it’s a critical role - that of a true brand steward. It’s one that directly shapes our customers’ impressions and impacts acquisition as well as retention.

  • You will be creating and merchandising the projects (arts, crafts, science, imaginative play, and more) that we curate for kids.
  • Includes innovative product creation, with extensive project testing with kids and iterations on the projects
  • Develop editorial content and manage illustration requests. Lead packaging design, while organizing and art directing photo shoots.
  • Translates business, marketing, and branding objectives into design strategies across retail channels.
  • Relationship management with retail partners and other business development partnerships
  • Reporting, forecasting, and analysis to identify growth opportunities and assortment improvements
  • Ensure a compelling product experience on the site, with inspirational merchandise presentation and clear and accurate product details.
  • Collaborates closely with Sourcing, Operations, Photography, and Marketing

  • Strong visual design skills and high level of taste and aesthetic sense. Proficient in CS6: InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator.
  • Prototyping skills. Photoshoot experience. On press experience with a solid understanding of technical specifications involved in print production. Working knowledge of techniques.
  • Merchandising experience.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Role

The Graphic Designer role at Kiwi Crate brings our brands (Kiwi Crate, Koala Crate, Doodle Crate, and Tinker Crate) to life and plays a key role in shaping the consumer’s view of the company. It’s a rich and rewarding position that directly shapes our customers’ impressions and engages our young customers. You will be creating and delivering packaging, product designs, die lines, and collateral for our retail channel.

  • Includes project creation with the design team, project testing, and some material sourcing.
  • Manages development of print layout work for instruction sheets and magazines.
  • Creates presentations and sell sheets for meetings with retail buyers. Produces planograms and visual layouts as needed.
  • Owns developing new packaging design for an assortment of products.
